2 a the state of being frequent; frequent occurrence. b the process of being repeated at short intervals.
3 Physics the rate of recurrence of a vibration, oscillation, cycle, etc.; the number of repetitions in a given time, esp. per second.

4 Statistics the ratio of the number of actual to possible occurrences of an event.
